Cot Me, Aceh

Situated along Aceh’s northeast coast at Desa Ladong between Ujung Batee and Krueng Raya, where the area is largely under exploitation by fish and shrimp farming. Cot me was a late-medieval habitation site (c.13th – 16th centuries), located in a region once known as Lambri or Lamri, a pre-modern kingdom frequently mentioned in Chinese historical texts. A large number of well-preserved ceramic sherds are those of high quality Chinese export variety from kilns in Guangdong, Fujian, Jiangxi Jingdezhen and Zhejiang Longquan complexes, as well as a range of local and imported earthenwares. Organic remains such as bivalve shells, animal bones and teeth, and fragments of wood have also been recovered from this site most of which is waterlogged throughout the year.
