Singapore Management University School of Law

Fort Canning has a rich archaeological and historical heritage. Past investigations concentrated around the eastern and southern terraces of the hill, and the southeast foothill of Fort Canning fronting Stamford Road and Armenian Street had not been previously explored. The construction of the new Singapore Management University School of Law necessitated an impact assessment of the selected site. The site encompassed the car park and food center neighboring the former red-bricked National Library on Stamford Road. In the last quarter of the 19th century, St. Andrew’s mission school occupied the site between 1875 and 1940. The mission chapel or St. Peter’s Church was demolished in 1957 to make way for the National Library and during the evaluation the chapel’s foundations were discovered.
