Fort Tanjong Katong

In early 2004, the local residents’ committee of the Mountbatten constituency initiated a community-led archaeology project to uncover an old British fortification within Katong Park. Numerous volunteers from the neighborhood and surrounding schools assisted with the excavation to reveal the surviving foundations of the 19th century fort, uncovering two infantry defence caponiers, the inner moat wall, and part of the drawbridge superstructure. Today part of the southeast caponier remains visible at the park, while the rest of the fortification are still safely buried beneath the grounds.
