Foot Tet Soo Khek Temple & Mount Palmer

The earliest cartographic records depicted the Foot Tet Soo Khek Temple (aka Wang Hai Da Bo Gong) existed as early as 1844 at the foot of Mount Palmer in Tanjong Pagar, but very little else is know about the temple’s early history. In 2006, the temple trustees embarked on a study of their building and the surrounding area. The two-week excavations revealed Second World War artifacts from the temple’s grounds, offering some suggestion as to the site’s activities during the war and post-war years. In 2016, the Mount Palmer site was revisited when the remaining hillock was demolished to make way for a bus terminal. Mount Palmer was the site of the late 19th century Fort Palmer. No remains of the fortification were found but remnants of the Parsi cemetery was surveyed and mapped.
